Nobody had to teach you to look up.
Something about the sky pulls the human eye without instruction.
A sunset stops a conversation. A storm front moving across a flat horizon makes people stand still at windows.
The first clear night after a week of clouds, when the stars reappear in full, produces a response in the chest that most people cannot articulate but everyone recognizes.
Scripture takes the sky seriously as a theological address.
Psalm 19:1 says the heavens declare the glory of God and the sky above proclaims his handiwork. The word translated declare is the Hebrew word for telling, narrating, recounting.
The sky is actively communicating. Day after day it speaks. Night after night it reveals knowledge. No language is required, and no voice is heard, yet the speech reaches the ends of the world.
The sky in Scripture is not a backdrop. God stretched it out like a tent curtain according to Isaiah 40:22.
He set the sun in it, named the stars, counted them, and calls each one by name. He rides on the wings of the wind according to Psalm 104:3.
When Job needed to be reoriented after his season of suffering, God spoke to him from the whirlwind and pointed him to the sky: Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Can you bind the Pleiades? Can you loose the belt of Orion?
The sky puts human beings in their correct proportion. And it does it every single day, for free, without being asked.

The Sky Has Been Preaching the Same Sermon Since the First Morning
Every day the sky opens for business before most people are awake to receive what it offers.
The ancient Israelite shepherd lying in the field at night understood the stars as the signature of a maker.
The psalmist looked at the same sky and asked the same question that surfaces in every person who has ever stood outside on a clear night: what is man that you are mindful of him?
The question does not diminish the person. It situates them correctly in relation to the God who, despite the scale of what he made, chose to be mindful of the small creature standing beneath it.
The sky will be replaced. Revelation says so. But the God who made it, names the stars, rides the wind, and will return through the clouds is permanent.
