Difficult times do not ask permission before they arrive.
They show up in the middle of plans, in the middle of what felt like stable seasons, in the middle of stretches where things were finally going well.
A diagnosis comes back wrong. A relationship collapses. The financial ground that looked solid turns out to have been surface tension.
And the person who is suddenly in the middle of it has to decide, often very quickly, whether they are going to hold their position or be swept away by the pressure.
Standing firm is not the same as being unaffected.
The biblical record is full of people who were shaken, who wept, who asked hard questions, who told God they had had enough.
Job said this. Elijah said this. Jeremiah said it so often his entire book carries the weight of it.
The standing firm did not look like stoic indifference to what was happening. It looked like people who kept returning to God even when returning felt pointless.
