People behave differently in the dark than they do in the light.
That observation is so universal it barely needs stating, but Scripture states it anyway, repeatedly, because the implications are theological rather than merely behavioral.
Luke 8:17 says nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest, nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.
Jesus said this publicly, to a crowd, as a matter of fact rather than a threat. The exposure is not a possibility. It is a certainty. The only variable is timing.

The Light Is Coming Whether You Invite It or Not
The person who lives as though they are already seen has nothing the light can threaten.
That is the practical difference between the warning and the invitation in these verses. The warning is that hidden things will be exposed. The invitation is to stop hiding them now, voluntarily, before the exposure is involuntary.
