Abraham packed up his household and left for a country he had never seen based on a promise from a God he had only recently begun to follow.
Genesis 12:1 records the instruction: go from your country, your kindred, and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.
God did not hand him a map. He gave him a direction and a promise, and Abraham walked.
That pattern repeats across the entire Bible.
Moses left Midian for Egypt. Joshua crossed the Jordan into Canaan. Ruth left Moab for Bethlehem. Nehemiah left the king’s palace for a pile of rubble in Jerusalem. Paul left everything he had built as a Pharisee to become an itinerant preacher who would be beaten, shipwrecked, and imprisoned for the message he carried.
Not one of them had the complete picture before they took the first step.
The new journey in Scripture always begins with partial information and a God who says I will be with you.

The Scariest Part of Any New Journey Is Usually the Night Before It Starts
Ruth made her decision on a road between Moab and Bethlehem. Naomi told her to go home. Orpah turned back. Ruth did not.
She looked at a future with no husband, no income, no social standing in a foreign country, and chose it anyway because the God of Naomi had become her God.
She had no idea she would end up in the genealogy of Jesus. She was just trying to survive the week.
That is closer to how most new journeys actually begin.
Not with a dramatic vision and a clear map, but with a decision made under pressure, with limited information, by a person who has more questions than answers but has decided to move anyway.
Philippians 3:13–14 captures the physical posture of someone starting fresh: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward.
Paul described it like a runner leaning into the next stride. You cannot lean forward while looking backward. The strain is intentional. It takes effort to keep your eyes on what is ahead when what is behind keeps calling your name.
Joshua stood at the edge of the Jordan River with an entire nation behind him, a river in front of him, and shoes to fill that belonged to Moses.

Where Joshua needed to hear be strong and courageous three times before the water parted, let me hear it as many times as I need. I would rather start scared with you than stay comfortable without you.
