Elijah called fire from heaven on a Tuesday and wanted to die on a Wednesday.
First Kings 18 records the most dramatic public demonstration of God’s power in the Old Testament.
Elijah stood alone against 450 prophets of Baal, the fire fell, the people fell on their faces, and the drought broke.
And then Jezebel sent a messenger saying she would kill him by the next day. First Kings 19:4 says he ran into the wilderness and sat under a tree asking God to end his life.
God’s response was not a sermon. It was bread, water, sleep, and then a quiet question. What are you doing here, Elijah?
The renewal began with physical care and a conversation. Not a rebuke. Not a theological correction.
Food and rest and the willingness of God to meet a burned-out prophet exactly where he had collapsed.

Three People. Three Collapses. Three Returns That Changed History.
Peter wept bitterly in a courtyard after denying Jesus three times. Weeks later, on a beach, Jesus asked him three times whether he loved him and gave him back the same calling.
The reinstated Peter preached at Pentecost with a boldness the pre-denial Peter had only bragged about.
The failure stripped something away that needed to go: the self-reliance that had made his original confidence brittle. What grew back in its place was a faith anchored in the grace that restored him rather than in his own ability to perform.
