God’s Promotions Do Not Require Your Campaign. They Require Your Character.
Joseph spent thirteen years between the dream and the position.
He was sold by his brothers at seventeen. He stood before Pharaoh at thirty. In between, he managed a household he did not own, survived a false accusation, and administered a prison he did not choose.
At no point during those thirteen years did Joseph lobby for advancement. Genesis 39 says the Lord was with Joseph repeatedly, and each time a human being noticed his competence, the text credits God rather than Joseph’s networking.
David was anointed king as a teenager and did not sit on the throne until he was thirty.
The gap included years of running from Saul, living in caves, and leading a ragtag group of misfits through the wilderness.
Twice he had the opportunity to kill Saul and take the throne by force. Twice he refused. The promotion belonged to God’s timeline, not David’s ambition.
Proverbs 18:16 says a man’s gift makes room for him. The room is not self-made. The gift, developed through faithful work in unglamorous settings, creates an opening that the person did not manufacture. The gift did the work. God arranged the audience.

Where Joseph served faithfully in houses and prisons he did not choose, let me bring that same quality to the assignment I currently hold rather than performing at half capacity while waiting for the one I actually want.
And where 1 Peter 5:6 says humble yourself and God will exalt in due time, let me stop trying to accelerate a timeline you set before I was aware a timeline existed.
