The most honest prayer a person can pray about their path is: I do not know the way. Lead me.
This is harder than it sounds. Most people arrive at prayer about direction after they have already formed a preferred outcome.
They bring a destination to God and ask for confirmation rather than guidance. The difference is significant.
Confirmation-seeking asks God to bless the route already selected.
Genuine guidance-seeking submits the route itself to the one who knows what the person asking does not.
Psalm 25 is the most sustained prayer for guidance in the Psalter, and it opens with total reliance: to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
Lifting up of the soul is the posture of complete availability. Not the partial availability of the person who will follow wherever God leads as long as it resembles what they were already planning.
The full availability of the person who genuinely does not know and genuinely wants to be shown.
The reason God’s guidance is trustworthy is not that he is good at navigation. It is that he already knows the end from the beginning.
Isaiah 46:10 records him saying: I declare the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done.
The path God leads you on is not improvised. It has been known from the other direction. He is not working out what is best for you as he goes. He already knows, and the leading is the translation of that knowing into movement you can actually follow.

The most reassuring thing about being led by God is that he has never been lost.
He does not lead by trial and error. He does not revise the route when a complication arises.
He declared the end from the beginning, and from that vantage point, every step he gives is precisely calibrated to produce the outcome he already sees.
The person following does not need to see the destination. They need to see the next step.
That is all the lamp provides. Light for the feet, not a panoramic view of the entire journey. And that has always been enough for the person who is genuinely following.

What does the Bible say about God leading your path?
Proverbs 3:5–6 promises straight paths to those who acknowledge God in all their ways. Psalm 23:3 says he leads in right paths for his name’s sake.
