Grace and love are often spoken about as though they are interchangeable.
They are not.
Love is the motive. Grace is the method.
God loved the world, and the means by which that love reached a world incapable of earning it was grace.
Ephesians 2:4–5 holds both together in a single breath: because of his great love for us, God made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions.
The love is what he felt. The grace is what he did about it.
A person can love someone and still withhold from them based on performance. Parents do it. Employers do it. Friends do it.
What makes God’s love distinct is that grace removed every performance requirement from the equation.
Romans 11:6 says if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works; otherwise grace would no longer be grace.
The moment a condition is attached, the grace evaporates and something else takes its place.

Can you lose God’s grace?

Where Luke 15:20 shows a father running toward a son who had not yet finished the apology, give me that same impulse toward the person I have been keeping at arm’s length until they earn their way back.
And where Ephesians 3:18 describes a love too wide and long and high and deep for the human mind to fully map, let me stop trying to measure what was designed to exceed measurement and simply live inside it.
