God’s Presence in Trouble Does Not Make the Trouble Disappear. It Makes You Survivable Inside It.
Daniel 3 did not end with the furnace shutting down before the three men entered it. They went in. The fire was real and heated seven times beyond its normal temperature.
And when Nebuchadnezzar looked inside, the only thing destroyed was what had been used to restrain them. The ropes burned. The men walked free.
God’s presence inside the furnace accomplished something that rescue from outside it would not have: it proved that the fire had no authority over people God accompanied into it.
Psalm 23:4 locates God’s companionship inside the valley of the shadow of death, not on the ridge above it. The rod and staff offered comfort because they were close enough to touch.
