Genesis 18:14 asks a question that has been answering itself for thousands of years: Is anything too hard for the Lord?

The question was asked about a ninety-year-old woman having a baby. Sarah laughed. God did not.

Isaac was born on schedule, and the question has been standing as a theological challenge to every limitation the human mind tries to impose on God ever since.

Omnipotence means all-powerful. Not mostly powerful. Not powerful within certain categories. All.

Jeremiah 32:17 says you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm, and nothing is too hard for you.

Jeremiah said this while his nation was being destroyed by Babylon, which means the declaration of God’s unlimited power was not made from a position of visible victory. It was made from inside a situation that looked, from every human angle, like God had lost control.

He had not. The appearance of divine inaction and the reality of divine sovereignty are not the same thing. Job learned this. Nebuchadnezzar learned it the hard way. Pharaoh learned it the hardest way of all.

The God Who Created Everything Has Not Lost Power Over Anything

Nebuchadnezzar was the most powerful ruler in the ancient world when God removed him from the throne and put him in a field eating grass like an animal for seven years.

Daniel 4:35 records what Nebuchadnezzar said when his mind was restored: he does according to his will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth, and none can stay his hand or say to him, what have you done.

The most powerful man on earth learned the lesson the hardest way available: his power was borrowed. God’s was not.

Ephesians 3:20 says God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine. The immeasurably more means the ceiling of what you have conceived as possible is not the ceiling of what God can do.

Your biggest prayer is small compared to his capacity. Your most impossible situation is routine for the one who created matter by speaking.

The omnipotence of God is not a theological abstraction for seminary classrooms. It is the operating reality behind every answered prayer, every opened Red Sea, every closed lion’s mouth, every resurrection. The same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work in the believer according to Romans 8:11.

The situation you are looking at right now that appears impossible is being looked at by a God who created the universe out of nothing by the sound of his voice.

Father, I want to bring before you the specific situation I have been treating as too difficult for resolution, and hold it against Jeremiah 32:17: nothing is too hard for you, which means the thing I have been losing sleep over is not outside your reach.

Let Ephesians 3:20 expand what I am willing to ask for, because you are able to do immeasurably more than I have imagined, and I have been imagining too small.
