Knowing that someone wants you to fail changes something in the atmosphere around you.
It is not the same as an enemy you can identify and confront.
The person wishing bad on you might be someone you see regularly, someone who smiles at your face while hoping for your downfall behind it.
They might be someone from your past whose bitterness has aged into something active, a sustained wish that things will not work out for you.
They might be someone in your extended circle who feels that your progress is somehow a diminishment of their own.
What makes this particularly difficult is that the Bible does not minimize what this does to a person.
David wrote extensively about people who sought his harm while wearing the face of friendship.
He described their smooth words and warlike hearts, their flattery and their concealed swords. He named the specific heaviness of knowing someone is working against you.
But the Bible also establishes with extraordinary consistency that the wishes of human enemies are not the final authority over a person’s life.
God’s purpose for you cannot be voted out by someone else’s malice.
What they intend for harm does not have a higher authority than what God intends for good.
No curse succeeds against a person God has blessed. No plot against the righteous goes unobserved by the Judge of all the earth.

The person wishing bad on you believes they are operating in privacy.
They are not.

Everything done against you in secret is fully visible to God.
The hidden intention, the private wish, the concealed plan: all naked before him.

The guard is commanded.
The assignment is specific and it covers all your ways.

The plot that terrifies you from ground level produces laughter from above.
God sees the end of the plot before it is fully formed.

Joseph said this to the very people who had wished his destruction.

The retaliation impulse is natural and understandable.

The justice you want is available, but it belongs to God.

God’s provision does not require the enemy’s absence.
The table is set, the anointing is applied, and the cup overflows while the enemies are watching.

The person targeting you has put their hand against something God guards with the most instinctive protection possible.
The apple of the eye is what you shield before you even think about it.

The arithmetic is straightforward.
Whatever is against you is operating against someone God is for.

What does the Bible say about people who wish bad on you?

Father, someone is wishing bad on me.
And I want to bring that to you rather than carry it alone.
Not to ask you to destroy them.

Let the weapon they have formed find no ground.

Set your angel around me the way Psalm 34 describes.
Prepare the table in front of the very people who want me to fail.
And give me the grace to do what Matthew 5 commands: to pray for them.
Not easily.
Not without feeling the weight of what they are doing.
But genuinely.
Because I want to be free from the bitterness more than I want to be right.
Handle what is being done against me.
