Every situation you are currently facing has a last word, and it does not belong to the diagnosis, the bank statement, the court ruling, or the person who said it was over.
That is not wishful thinking. It is a theological position backed by the entire weight of Scripture.
The God of the Bible is not a deity who observes outcomes and adjusts his hopes accordingly.
He is the one who determines outcomes. He is the first word and the last word. He holds the beginning and the end simultaneously.
Nothing that happens in between those two points is outside his authority.
The doctor who delivered the terminal report has a superior.
The judge who issued the ruling answers to a higher court.
The enemy who declared victory over your life spoke before the verdict was in.
God has not yet spoken his final word over your situation.
When he does, everything else will either align with it or fall silent.
The verses below are not motivational quotes.
They are the documented record of a God who has repeatedly, historically, and permanently demonstrated that he has the final say.
He Is the First and the Last
1. I Am the Alpha and the Omega
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” — ESV, Revelation 1:8
The first letter and the last letter of the Greek alphabet belong to him.
Everything spoken in between operates within what he framed at the beginning and will seal at the end.
2. I Am the First and the Last
“Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: ‘I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god.’” — ESV, Isaiah 44:6
There is no one after him to overturn his ruling.
The one who is the last has no appeal court above him.
3. Declaring the End From the Beginning
“Declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things not yet done, saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.’” — ESV, Isaiah 46:10
God declared the end before the beginning was complete.
His counsel is not provisional. It stands.
No Purpose of His Can Be Thwarted

“I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted.” — ESV, Job 42:2
Job said this after the severest season of his life.
Not one purpose of God was thwarted by everything that happened to him.

Human plans are numerous and often confident.
Only one set of plans stands at the end of everything.

None can stay his hand.
The situation you are in is not beyond the reach of the hand no one can stop.
When the Enemy Declares Victory Too Soon
7. What Was Meant for Evil, God Meant for Good
“As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.” — ESV, Genesis 50:20
Joseph’s brothers declared the final word when they sold him into slavery.
They were wrong. God had not yet spoken.
8. The Stone the Builders Rejected Became the Cornerstone
“The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes.” — ESV, Psalm 118:22
The builders made their assessment. God reversed it.
The rejected thing became the most important thing. That is what the final say looks like.
9. He Raises the Poor From the Dust
“He raises up the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor.” — ESV, 1 Samuel 2:8
The ash heap is not the final address.
God lifts from there and seats beside princes.
10. The Last Will Be First

The world’s order of things is not the final order.
God reserves the right to rearrange what human systems established.
God’s Word Over Your Situation Cannot Be Cancelled
11. My Word Shall Not Return to Me Empty
“So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.” — ESV, Isaiah 55:11
Every word God has spoken about your life is currently in motion.
It will not return empty.

The physical universe has a finish line.
God’s word does not.

God actively watches over what he has said to make sure it is carried out.
The word spoken over your life is being supervised.
God Overrules What Looks Final
14. Lazarus, Come Out
“He cried out with a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come out.’” — ESV, John 11:43
Four days in the tomb. The mourning was over. The situation was settled.
Jesus spoke and the final word of death was overturned.
15. He Turned the Red Sea Into Dry Land
“He rebuked the Red Sea and it dried up; he led them through the deep as through a desert.” — ESV, Psalm 106:9
The Red Sea was the final obstacle. It was also not the final word.
God rebuked a body of water and it obeyed.
16. He Opens Doors No Man Can Shut
“The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and what he opens no one will shut, and who shuts and what he shuts no one will open.” — ESV, Revelation 3:7
The door that was shut over your life was not shut by the one who has the key.
The one who holds the key can open what every human authority declared closed.
The Final Word Over Death Itself
17. Death Is Swallowed Up in Victory
“Death is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” — ESV, 1 Corinthians 15:54–55
Death is the last and most convincing argument that anything is over.
God swallowed it.
18. I Am the Resurrection and the Life
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.’” — ESV, John 11:25
Jesus made the most audacious claim in the middle of a funeral.
He is the resurrection. That is the final word over death.
19. He Will Wipe Away Every Tear
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” — ESV, Revelation 21:4
The last chapter of the story has no death, no mourning, and no pain.
Whatever the current chapter contains, that is the ending.
Standing on the Final Say
20. I Know the Plans I Have for You
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” — ESV, Jeremiah 29:11
God spoke this into a situation that looked hopeless by every human measure.
The plans he knows are not cancelled by the circumstances that do not yet reflect them.
21. He Who Began a Good Work Will Complete It
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” — ESV, Philippians 1:6
The unfinished quality of your current situation is not evidence of abandonment.
It is evidence that the work is still in progress.
22. All Things Work Together for Good
“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” — ESV, Romans 8:28
All things means the situation that looks like the opposite of good is included.
The together is where the final say reveals itself.
23. The Lord Will Fulfill His Purpose for Me
“The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.” — ESV, Psalm 138:8
The psalmist declared this as a confidence, not a hope.
The Lord will fulfill. Not might. Will.

What does it mean that God has the final say?
It means no circumstance, person, diagnosis, failure, or spiritual force can produce an outcome that God does not ultimately govern. Isaiah 46:10 says his counsel stands and he accomplishes all his purpose. Daniel 4:35 says none can stay his hand. God’s final say is not a possibility; it is a certainty grounded in his sovereignty.

Hebrews 11 describes an entire gallery of people who trusted God when what he promised was not yet visible. Trust preceded every outcome Scripture records.
How do I pray when I need God to have the final say?
Pray specifically, naming the situation and the word you are trusting God to speak into it. Psalm 138:8 is a direct declaration: the Lord will fulfill his purpose for me. Isaiah 55:11 can be prayed as a claim on what God has already spoken. Prayer that invites God’s final word over a situation is prayer aligned with Scripture’s consistent testimony.
This Is Not Over Until You Say It Is
Father, there are situations in our lives that have declared themselves final.
Diagnoses that used permanent language.
Relationships that have been pronounced over.
Doors that were shut with what felt like authority.
We are coming before you today to ask you to speak.
Not because we do not believe the reports, but because we know that you outrank every report.
You declared the end from the beginning.
You watch over your word to perform it.
You opened the Red Sea and raised Lazarus and told Joseph that what was meant for evil you meant for good.
We are asking for the same God in our situations.
Let your counsel stand where human counsel has declared defeat.
Let your word accomplish what it was sent to accomplish.
And remind us that what we are watching is not the final scene.
You have not yet spoken the last word.
