Ecclesiastes 3:1 says For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.
The verse is familiar enough to be quoted at funerals, but the weight of it only lands when you are inside a season you did not choose and cannot shorten.
The person in a season of abundance rarely thinks about seasons theologically. The person in a season of loss thinks about little else. Why is this happening? How long will it last? Is God still involved in what is unfolding?
Genesis 8:22 provides the structural guarantee: while the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall not cease.
The promise is not that seasons will be pleasant. It is that they will keep moving. The winter will not become permanent. The harvest follows the planting. The morning follows the night.
The cycle is built into the design of the created world, and the same God who calibrated the physical seasons governs the spiritual ones.
The season you are in right now is temporary. It is also purposeful.

The Season You Are In Is Not the Season You Will Be In Forever
The farmer who plants in April does not panic in May because the harvest has not arrived. The planting season is not the harvest season, and treating one as though it should produce what the other produces is the fastest way to abandon the field before it yields anything.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 says God makes everything beautiful in its time. The in its time is the condition most people resist. The beauty of the planting season is invisible to the person who is measuring every day against the harvest.
The beauty of the pruning season is incomprehensible to the person being cut. The beauty of the waiting season requires a trust in the gardener that the garden itself cannot provide.
Psalm 1:3 describes the person planted by streams of water who yields fruit in its season. The in its season means the fruit arrives on a schedule the tree does not set. The tree’s job is to stay planted, stay connected to the water, and let the season do what seasons do.

Where I have been resisting the pruning of John 15:2, help me receive it as preparation for increase rather than evidence of punishment, because the gardener who prunes is invested in the branch, not hostile toward it.
Let Ecclesiastes 3:11 hold me: you make everything beautiful in its time, and the timing is yours to determine, not mine to rush.
